OUR STORY

About Saree Katha

A quiet effort to preserve handloom traditions, one story at a time.

The Beginning

Saree Katha was born in 2020, during the silence of lockdown. While the world paused, the handlooms of Bengal fell quiet too—but for different reasons. Weavers who had spent their lives creating beauty suddenly had no one to make for.

Not a Designer, But a Listener

The woman behind Saree Katha doesn't call herself a designer. She calls herself a listener. She travels to villages, sits with weavers, hears their stories, and brings their work to people who will appreciate it. She believes that sarees don't need to be designed—they need to be understood.

Our Philosophy

We don't believe in trends. We don't believe in discounts. We believe that handloom is a form of meditation, and wearing it is a form of respect.

  • Every saree is documented with its complete origin story
  • Imperfections are celebrated as proof of human touch
  • Weavers are credited and compensated fairly
  • No rush, no pressure—craft takes time

Why "Katha"?

In Bengali, "Katha" means story. But it also refers to the traditional embroidery that tells tales through thread. Saree Katha is both—a collection of stories and a form of storytelling through fabric.

"I don't sell sarees. I find guardians for them."
